BMW enters partnership with famous winter sports destinations

Sheer driving pleasure on snow and ice: BMW xDrive presents the Best of the Alps

(LifePR) - As of the 2010/11 winter season, BMW xDrive and the umbrella organisation "Best of the Alps" have been working in close cooperation. "Best of the Alps" represents twelve premium areas in the Alps, including destinations such as Garmisch-Partenkirchen, St. Moritz and Chamonix-Mont Blanc. This season, winter sports fans in the destinations of Megève, Seefeld and Davos Klosters have already been able to experience the BMW xDrive 4x4 system at first hand, participate in special BMW winter driving courses and benefit from cooperation campaigns with ski schools, ski clubs and hotels.

With its internet platform, www.BMW-xDrive-Guide.com, BMW xDrive has established a travel guide in the premium Alpine tourism sector. It presents the twelve member resorts of the "Best of the Alps", along with other premium destinations with whom BMW has agreed long-term partnerships: Obertauern, Courchevel, Zillertal, Val d'Isère and even the Sierra Nevada. In addition to extensive information about the BMW xDrive 4x4 system, users are given tips on the best hotels, the greatest pistes, the most beautiful deep snow slopes, popular events and culinary highlights in the Alpine resorts. Current weather reports, snow conditions, piste maps and webcams provide users quickly and clearly with the most important information for the perfect holiday. Information on BMW Deutschland's involvement in bobsleigh and tobogganing, cross-country skiing and biathlons round off the portal.

With the BMW xDrive Cup, BMW is offering, for the first time, a leisure competition as part of the 2010/2011 winter sports season that uniquely combines driving pleasure and winter sports. In the competition, winter sports fans can collect points and win great prizes. The "badges", as they are called, can be obtained by purchasing a ski pass in the partner resorts, by successfully reaching a height of 5,000 metres or by skiing down a particular route in the ski district. A particular highlight is the Skimovie complexes in Seefeld, Zillertal Hochfügen and Saalbach/Hinterglemm, which opened up this winter. The giant slalom courses are provided with a BMW xDrive Cup start gate, gate flags and video cameras. After registering successfully on the website, users can assess their personal run online, with video and time measurement, and also collect badges for it. Rankings lists that are updated each day provide an indication of personal performance.




Each month, all users who have collected at least five badges take part in a prize draw where they can win limited-edition K2 LTD. BMW X3 skis. At the end of the season, all winter sports fans with at least 15 badges will be entered into a draw for a new BMW X3 - and the participant who has the most badges will win a one-week BMW Ice Fascination driver's training in Sweden.
