SERES’Clifford Kang: Chinese Automakers Going Global Should Embrace Win-Win Partnerships and Integrate into Local Markets

ID: 2245037

(IINews) - The 2026 Intelligent Electric Vehicle Development Forum (2026), hosted by the China EV100 Research Institute, took place in Beijing from April 11–12. Clifford Kang, Vice President of SERES Group, spoke at the event about the company s global expansion in the new energy vehicle (NEV) market.

"China is the world s biggest luxury car market, and luxury vehicles keep gaining market share here—especially NEVs, which still have huge growth potential in the luxury segment,"Kang said. Cars that deliver both cutting-edge tech and luxury are resonating with more and more buyers. AITO, the premium NEV brand that SERES developed in partnership with Huawei, hits exactly what this market wants. The brand s philosophy is"Intelligence Redefines Luxury,"and it s become the first EV brand to get real recognition for both its smart cabin features and driver assistance tech.

As of this March, over 880,000 active users have used AITO s intelligent assisted driving technology, racking up more than 6.6 billion cumulative kilometers. That s two-thirds of the 9.6 billion total kilometers driven using Huawei s driver assistance system. During this year s Spring Festival, AITO s main models had intelligent assisted driving activated for over 50% of miles driven. These numbers show that customers really trust and use the technology.

Regarding global expansion, Kang outlined three phases for Chinese automakers: first, establish a market presence through trade partnerships; second, build local manufacturing and R&D capabilities; third, export technology standards and brand value. SERES is now accelerating its overseas push, maintaining a global technology core while adapting products to local markets.

"Electrification is changing the whole industry, and AI is defining the future of mobility,"Kang said. Going forward, SERES will stay open to partnerships, stick to its vision of"Intelligence Redefining Luxury", keep innovating, focus on what customers actually want, and work with partners worldwide to help the automotive industry go green.
